When I first got to know Barbara she was by then an elderly woman .We met as she was bravely crossing the road one dark evening on her return from Mass in our local church. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith.I will remember her as someone who was fiercely independent, feisty and full of interesting stories of her life.She loved doing word puzzles in the newspaper when I visited .She had an amazing vocabulary and I always learned something new from her.It was a privilege to have met her.May she rest in peace. Barbara became a friend to a group of us that volunteered in Lourdes. We visited her house a few times and helped with her garden and she bought us all veggie sandwiches from the local shop. We listened to her extraordinary stories about her life and adventures around the world. She often called me to catch up and find out what the red cap helpers were up to. She was a wonderful presence and her positive outlook on life was contagious. I will remember those times spent with Barbara and miss our catch ups. Thanks for all the laughs and advice over the years. Rest in peace xx

What a lady. As an enthralled film fan I loved watching Barbara on screen; I felt so fortunate to meet her at movie events; eventually, via our mutual friend Steve Hardy, I got the dream assignment of interviewing Barbara in front of a live audience, her delightful presence and keenness to reminsce about her career thoroughly entertaining the crowd. And in latter years Barbara was gracious enough to invite Steve and I to her home, for cuppas galore, vegetarian lunches, and biscuits. And more biscuits! Not to mention stories galore. Never to be forgotten. A vastly talented screen performer, and a friendly and welcoming person in 'real life'.

Dear Barbara, How much I am already missing our daily phone calls... We only became friends in the last decade but, as we both used to comment, it felt like we'd known each other forever. Our topics of conversation were broad and, at times, rather unusual! I remember one conversation that consisted largely of us discussing the merits of different sorts of hot chocolate. I'll miss our word games, bad puns and even worse jokes... and I'll miss our bedtimes calls... We always made a point of calling each other before retiring for the evening. And so, for the last time, dear Barbara, goodnight, God bless and pleasant dreams... Love always, Steve x
